The Challenge for M2M

As Machine-to-Machine (M2) applications become more wide-spread, the enabling technologies are being introduced to a far more mainstream audience. For many companies however, the traditional SCADA and telemetry solutions are either too complicated or expensive to deploy. They need solutions that are effective, but which take into account the reality of their resource limitations.

Experience the COM1000

Designed by experienced networking and telecommunications engineers, the COM1000 provides you with a single device that can be seamlessly integrated into LAN, WAN, and WIRELESS projects. Its embedded applications provide quick and easy means of connecting serial devices to IP networks, Internet enabling legacy devices, or integrating remote devices with today's advanced 3G wireless data networks. Its unique blend of Serial and TCP/IP communications, digital and analog inputs, relays, and embedded applications combine to help simplify application integration and elimintate many of today's Machine-to-machine deployment challenges.

Ready to deploy

Unlike other M2M oriented hardware, the COM1000 is not a hardware development platform.

  • There's no SDK to purchase
  • No scripting language to learn
  • No software apps to compile

Just connect your sensor or serial device, select an application, and you're done. It's that simple!

Just a few of the COM1000 features:
  • (4) Digital Inputs
  • (1) Analog Input
  • (1) Relay Output
  • Ethernet, RS232, RS485 Ports
  • Supports CDMA, GPRS, & More
  • Support for Private Radio
  • Supports HTTP, TCP, UDP, PPP, SNMP
  • RS232 & RS485 Device Servers
  • SMTP, FTP, and SMS Clients
  • Custom Firmware for Application Service Providers (ASPs)
Some of the Pre-Compiled Applications:

  • Capture digital inputs & pulses
  • Receive and store serial data
  • Log, count or totalize input events
  • Monitor analog sensor range
  • Alert on inputs or set points
  • Alert on serial data streams
  • Send alerts via SMS/SMTP/FTP
  • Send log/counts via SMTP/FTP
  • Manual or triggered relay control
  • Custom applications for special projects

Who uses the COM1000?

The COM1000 is perfect for those situations that require a device that can handle analog and digital inputs, energize or de-energize a RELAY, and even log data - but don't need a full-blown PLC, RTU or alarm system. This makes it an ideal choice for:

  • SCADA/Telemetry/DA System
  • Public Utility Systems
  • Remote Data Collection
  • Solar System Monitoring

The COM1000 is the 'bump-in-the-cord" that wireless integrators have been waiting for. The ability to connect to wireless modems while still providing I/O and the ability to connect terminals or PCs makes it ideal for:

  • Network Administrators
  • Utility Integrators
  • Taxi/Limo Services
  • SCADA/Telemetry ASPs
  • Meter Data Collection
  • Vehicle Diagnostics and Control
  • Wireless/Mobile Monitoring Solutions
How do these personnel use the COM1000?

They often use it as a self-contained solution. As a standalone device, the COM1000 can perform a great many functions, including:

  • Monitor an analog input and have a single value or multiple set points trigger the activation of a relay.
  • Monitor, log, and count the changes of the (4) digital inputs.
  • Monitor the (4) digital inputs for change in state and trigger the activation of a relay connected to an external switch.
  • Set the COM1000 scheduler to activate the relay every hour, every day, every week, or even every month.
  • Connect the ANALOG INPUT and RELAY, for a perfect SOLAR BATTERY monitor.
  • Connect a digital output from an electronic meter to the (4) DIGITAL INPUTS for a turnkey data collection system.

Use it on your LAN... Connect the COM1000 to your LAN and select from a number of options, including:

  • Enable serial tunneling between serial data devices
  • Encapsulate serial data for transport over Ethernet using UDP or TCP
  • Initiate TCP or UDP communications from any PC or device on the LAN or Internet
  • Log data and FTP it as a file to a file or web server
  • Send email (SMTP) alerts based upon changes in DIGITAL INPUTS, ANALOG VALUES, or SERIAL DATA STREAMS.
  • Alert users using their desktop Instant Message (IM) application
  • Use the embeded relay to power-cycle equipment via TCP, UDP, or HTTP

Connect your serial devices Connect your RTU, PLC, or Data Logger to the RS232 or RS485 ports and select from a number of options, including:

  • Data Logging
  • Event Counter
  • UDP, TCP, FTP, SMTP, or data transport
  • Telnet access to the RTU, PLC. or Logger (Data Acquisition and Device Server)
  • SMS Alerts to your cellphone
  • Instant Message (IM) access to determine health and status of your device
Support for AT Commands

To facilitate the integration of the COM1000 with applications or devices that do not use traditional SCADA or Telemetry protocols, the COM1000 also supports a set of AT Commands in a format similar to traditional Hayes-compatible AT Commands. However, because the device is not a modem, the similarities are modest. But anyone familiar with using AT Commands will feel quite comfortable using the device in this manner.
